DESCRIPTION: In 1776, at the height of the Enlightenment, Jan Christiaan Sepp created an extraordinary volume unlike any other of its time: A Representation of Marble Types. Across 100 richly hand-colored plates, the book presents a captivating visual survey of 570 distinct varieties of marble, elevating both their aesthetic appeal and scientific classification. This world-first facsimile edition brings Sepp’s remarkable work back into focus, pairing its historic plates with new photography that reveals the intricate character of each marble sample. A rare fusion of art, natural history, and meticulous observation, it restores a forgotten masterpiece of knowledge and beauty to its rightful place.
